Malone and Ace Richmond Private Eye! Devious was a breath of fresh air. I've been too immersed in normal romances and Devious provided a welcome change.
An engrossing romantic suspense, I couldn't put it down. The interaction between the characters was fresh and intense. Their exchanges were amusing and made Devious seem too short. Well paced action interspersed with romance and the mundane kept me reading.
Jamie cracked me up. Nothing, nothing would stop her until she had her answers. She reminded me of a terrier. Just don't get in her way, and the consequences be damned.
Malone, just Malone, was a perfect foil for Jamie. Solid and always there for her, he seemed to instinctively know what to do to keep Jamie on the hook. A quiet man with a deep sense of humor, I loved his character. That he's on cop on top of that? Oh yeah! ~BA Ovalle
Kept Me Up Late Reading Past My Bedtime! This was a fun book because it combined several of my favorite book characteristics. There's mystery. Love mysteries. Mismatched pair who must work together. You have Jamie who witnesses a shooting while doing a tag along with State Trooper Malone. She's a regular wild card. A combination of I Love Lucy and part brassy dame ( a role Bette Davis did so well.) Trooper Malone is the straight guy and the law combined in an handsome package. This was an ejoyable read, and I didn't see the ending coming. Another must for a satisfying sleuthing experience.
Did I mention romance? Skads of it, from flirty one-liners to smouldering heat. Find out for yourself. ~M. Stamm
Devious!!! Good story line about a writer doing research for a novel. She stumbles into most of the evidence. I can't believe that she doesn't run into her step father when she goes into the station. And how he not know she is involved with one of his officers. The biggest mystery is not knowing the boyfriend first name. ~EulaliaLikes2Read
Jamie Richmond, reporter turned author, is doing research for her next book. Attempting to capture the realism of a police officer’s duties while on patrol, she manages to tag along for a shift with a state police trooper.
A few traffic stops and a high speed chase later, Jamie’s ride takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses the trooper being shot. Although it is not a fatal injury, Jamie becomes obsessed with unraveling the facts behind this violent act.
While she is trying to sort out this puzzle, she becomes romantically involved with Malone, another trooper with a few mysteries of his own.
Now Jamie’s attention is divided between a blooming romance and solving the crime which is haunting her. Jamie begins to question the events that took place and exactly who could be behind the shooting.
It was a devious mind. But who?

Mark Love this is amazing writing. I didn't want to put this down. I can't wait to Continue with book 2. ~Nancy Brutsche
Jamie Richmond is a feisty, little redhead who is a little bit Pit Bull and part pussy cat. She is doing research on her new book and asks her stepfather, Bert, who is a policeman if she can go on a ride along to get realistic information for it. She finds herself knee deep in a crime. She can't let go of it wanting to find out who shot the Kleinschmidt, the police officer in the car she was riding in. She doesn't understand why Kleinschmidt is demanding that she steer away from trying to find out who shot him. She becomes involved with Malone, a policeman who is handsome and more than willing to be in a relationship with Jamie. Their relationship is steaming, hot and very descriptive. I loved the relationship between the two and the twists and turns in the book. The relationship between Bert and Jamie is very heartwarming too. Bert is one of many husbands of Jamie's mother. He is the only one that Jamie feels is a father to her. He still has feelings for her mother but mostly feels a paternal love for Jamie. He is protective and loving and is a real father to her. I am reading Vanishing Act next, which is a sequel to Devious.

Great Introduction To A New Sleuthy Lady Mark Love pulled me in from the very beginning, kept me guessing until the end and kept me completely entertained throughout. Jamie Richmond is the best kind of heroine, she's a real woman, she's got flaws and perfections and that made me feel invested in her adventures. Malone is magnificent, perhaps sometimes he seemed a little too perfect but after all isn't a perfect man what we all say we want. It wasn't until a few of his flaws showed through that I truly felt myself going head over heels for this sexy and sensitive cop. All the characters in this book were well developed and added to the atmosphere and the story itself. I loved the mystery itself because it moved at just the right pace and it wasn't full of non-existent clues making it impossible to solve or so transparent that the answer was staring you right in the face. I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries because I'm certain they will love it. I cannot wait to see what Jamie can get up to in another adventure. ~Amazon Customer
Great Book! I love books where I get so caught up I forget everything going on around me. I forgot I was in "Hotlanta" GA and not in the Michigan snow with Jamie and Malone. My next read will definitely be the sequel. Love it. ~Frostfire
