The Change up

"Change is inevitable. Unless you're standing in front of a vending machine."

I heard that statement years ago. Yes, it was from a little old lady, similar to the picture on the left. Recently it fit in perfectly with a scene I was writing for the novella "Part-Time Criminal". I can't argue the fact that change is in fact, inevitable.
For the last five years, I've written a monthly newsletter. This usually included my thoughts on writing, notes on my latest projects and a run down of any upcoming events. I often included an interview with another author or a character from one of my books. And there was music. Since I can't work in silence, there is always a variety of music playing in the background.
Five years. That's longer than some marriages last. Almost 60 issues. But like that little old lady said, "Change is inevitable." Time for a change.
It was also the perfect opportunity to change the website. My good friend, Diana Kathryn Penn, at Pages Promotions helped build the old site. During many discussions we kicked around ideas for a new format. Lighter colors. More options. Easier access. All that jazz. I knew up front that Diana would once again be doing the heavy lifting, making all these changes behind the scenes to put a fresh spin on things.

So Diana, (that's her on the right) didn't hesitate. She bombarded me with questions, laughed at my responses and kept on working. The new format is exactly what I had in mind, even if I didn't realize it. The Jamie Richmond mysteries are prominently listed, including covers, details, links and even reviews. Same thing with the Jefferson Chene series. Diana pointed out that since I'm shifting gears and turning to a life of crime, there should be another category for crime thrillers. I reminded her that I'm writing crime stories, not actually becoming a criminal. She waved that comment away. I expected her to say something like 'same thing only different'.
Diana also built separate sections under the blog heading. In the past, everything was lumped together. Now there are sections with writing news, author interviews and even writing playlists. Pretty smooth!

Today marks the first 'new' post on the site. I'll continue to share news, interviews, music and more, utilizing the new and improved format. Meanwhile, I'll follow the lead of that great comedian Jackie Gleason. "Away We Go!"
